Catholic Morality: Continued

RCIA last night was Chapter 18, which continued our study on Catholic Morality. In several places in the chapter is almost seemed like we were reading the US Constitition, when the rights and dignities of the individual were being listed. In fact, I asked when this release of the Catechism was written. (Around 1930 -- the previous version of the Catechism was written during the Council of Trent in 1563!) Our teacher discussed how Communism / Marxism, which had the goal of eliminating class warfare, ignored human dignity completely. The USA isn't perfect, of course, but with regard to respect for the individual we are light years ahead of most countries.

We discussed the Human Vitae and how that relates to dignity and the individual. We discussed Liberation Theology and the human freedoms in South America.

I found out, also, that after we enter the Church at Easter, our RCIA classes will continue on into May, 2005. It's interesting... this is the first church I've heard of that doesn't stop teaching after the student joins. Perhaps there are others, but I don't know of them.
