Well, it seems nearly everyone I read online, from blogs to the Washington Post, agrees that the National Guard documents that 60 minutes ran with this week are most likely fakes. The documents were given to 60 minutes by the Kerry campaign, but the Kerry campaign is saying they just passed them along, it's not their job to verify them. This is a real bad thing for Dan Rather to have happen at the end of his career, but from what I've read, there were plenty of questions about the documents and 60 minutes went ahead with them anyway... it's his own fault.

I wonder if NBC and the Today show are watching this play out since next week they are planning to have on Kitty Kelley three times to claim President Bush and Laura were druggies... and her source, Sharon Bush (divorced from the President's brother Neil Bush) has already come out and said those claims attributed to her are false. Take a look at Dan Rather today, Katie Courice and Matt Lauer, do you want to be him?

On a more upbeat note: One of the wonderful things about having your daughter in Catholic grade school? Yesterday she told her teacher that her grandfather (my father) was in the hospital.... and the whole class prayed for him. :) That's one story my kids who went through public school never came home with.

Click here to view a pdf of one of the documents displayed by 60 minutes last night concerning President Bush's National Guard Service. Notice the "187th" ? What typerwriter in 1973 would have rendered 187th exactly like MicroSoft Word renders it today? Go to Powerline for more info....

I'm not one to go in for conspiracy theories, but having used typerwriters for years, I sure don't remember one that raised up "th" and shrunk it. What is 60 minutes trying to get away with here? At least two of the documents last night have the raised "th."

60 minutes will be interviewing Ben Barnes this weekend, the Lt. Governor of Texas in 1968. Barnes will be saying that he pushed President Bush ahead of others to get him into the National Guard and to keep him out of Vietnam. In the past, Barnes has said that no one in the Bush family requested this, but that he did it hoping to gain favor. It will be interesting to see if Dan Rather, who performed the interview of Barnes, will disclose that Mr. Barnes is the 3rd highest individual contributor to the John Kerry campaign for president.

And, if repeated complaints about not finding Texas Air National Guard records from 35 years ago are not enough, Kitty Kelley will be on all the morning network shows next week with her new book >i>"The Family: The Real Story of the Bush Dynasty". Even though Time and Newsweek refused to excerpt the book because it's impossible to substantiate the rumors of President Bush's cocaine use and Laura Bush being a drug selling pothead, the morning Today will go ahead with the rumors.

My parents' 50th wedding anniversary is coming up and I need to take a break to create a DVD of old pictures and slides. What good is the Internet? Well, I found this dandy way to scan in35mm slides using my normal, cheap, flatbed scanner.
